Pride was born in opposition to injustice and police violence

Last month, New York City’s Pride organizer, Heritage of Pride, announced that it would be banning the presence of uniformed police officers from its events for the next three years. In response to this announcement, the New York Times Editorial Board declared the move a serious “misstep” and chastised the organization for its “politicized response,” as if this was the first time that politics and Pride had ever intersected. But Pride has always been political, especially when it comes to the police. In fact, Pride was born in opposition to the police and the unjust system they so ruthlessly enforced.

Conservatives are introducing bills across the country that would limit the teaching of racism and slavery

Conservative lawmakers are spearheading a nationwide effort to whitewash American history and suppress freedom of speech in public schools and colleges across the country. Republicans have introduced bills in more than 15 states that would drastically limit discussions of race in the classroom and would effectively prohibit any mention of white privilege and white supremacy.

A majority of these bills specifically target topics like slavery, the Civil War, Reconstruction, and Jim Crow laws, referring to them as divisive and inappropriate for children. …

Joe Rogan thinks straight white men are being censored by “woke” culture, but he couldn’t be more wrong

Image: Douglas P. DeFelice/Getty Images

During a recent discussion on his podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience,” former television personality Joe Rogan falsely claimed that straight white men are losing their right to speak freely. Despite being paid more than $100 million to share his opinions with millions of listeners around the world, the podcaster lamented that he is being silenced by “cancel culture” and the “woke” mob.

“You can never be woke enough. That’s the problem,” Rogan said in the middle of an interview with comedian Joe List. “It keeps going further and further and further down the line. And if you get to the…

No one loves cancel culture more than conservatives

For the past year, conservative outrage over “cancel culture” has been used as a cudgel to avoid criticism and fan the flames of the GOP’s manufactured culture wars. From the renaming of the Mr. Potato Head brand to the innocuous use of the term “birthing people,” conservatives have become experts at generating fake outrage to stoke fear among their base and incite moral panic.

Republican commentators and politicians have used this alarmism over “cancel culture” to drum up hysteria over non-issues and portray themselves as victims of the “woke” mob. This has become such an effective tool in the GOP’s…

Republicans are simply repackaging their decades-long opposition to social justice.

In the midst of eating their own and pledging their undying loyalty to former President Donald Trump, Republicans are keeping themselves busy by waging a fake culture war on cancel culture and the “woke left.” Not a day goes by, as of late, where Fox News anchors and their congressional sycophants aren’t generating fake outrage by lying to their audience about toys and children’s books or parading around so-called victims of “cancel culture.” While this is not a new phenomenon, the language being used to describe it is.

Republicans are once again co-opting the language of progressives and people of…

Former Sen. Rick Santorum tried to erase Native American culture from American history

Image: Jason Campbell/Twitter

Speaking at a conference for the Young America’s Foundation last week, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum falsely claimed that white colonizers built the United States from nothing, dismissing the influence of Native American culture.

In an attempt to whitewash American history and peddle the myth of American exceptionalism, Santorum insisted that Native Americans made no contributions to America’s cultural legacy. “We came here and created a blank slate. We birthed a nation from nothing,” Santorum said. “I mean, there was nothing here. I mean, yes we have Native Americans, but candidly there isn’t much Native American culture in American culture.”

Derek Chauvin is just one of many bad apples

Image: Scott Olson/Getty Images

On Tuesday, a Minnesota jury found former police officer Derek Chauvin guilty on all three charges for the murder of George Floyd. The verdict was the result of a video recording of Mr. Floyd’s murder, a harrowing year of Black Lives Matter protests, and a lengthy and emotional trial. While many Americans didn’t need a trial to know that Chauvin was guilty of murder, the prosecution laid out a strong case, using the testimony of medical experts to prove to the jury, and the whole world, that Mr. Floyd’s death was the direct result of Chauvin’s use of excessive force…

Denying trans kids access to life-saving medical care will have deadly consequences.

The growing and coordinated attacks on transgender rights are quickly gaining momentum across the country. Conservative lawmakers have introduced a record number of anti-trans bills in more than two dozen states, most of which specifically target trans youth. Arkansas is just the latest state to turn these discriminatory bills into a dark reality, the consequences of which will be nothing short of deadly.

On Monday, the Arkansas state legislature passed a bill banning gender-affirming medical care for trans youth, becoming the first state in the country to deny minors access to life-saving and medically necessary treatment. …

Meghan McCain thinks diversity is a “slippery slope.”

During a conversation on The View about Asian American representation in President Joe Biden’s cabinet on Wednesday, Meghan McCain went on a rant about “identity politics” and America’s alleged meritocracy. While the rest of the show’s panel members seemed to agree that it was appropriate for Democratic Senators Tammy Duckworth and Mazie Hirono to demand that the Biden administration diversify its high-level staff, McCain took issue with it, claiming that only the “most qualified” people should be appointed to such prestigious positions.

“I believe that what makes America exceptional is the fact that we’re a meritocracy that you can be…

Criticism is not the same as censorship.

Image: Samuel Corum/Getty Images

During a radio interview on the “Joe Pags Show” last week, Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson (R) confessed that he never felt threatened by the mostly white insurrectionists who launched the deadly attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6 because he “knew those were people that love this country, that truly respect law enforcement, [and] would never do anything to break the law.” He went on to add, however, that he would have feared for his life and safety had they been Black Lives Matter protesters.

This is utterly delusional, considering the supposedly patriotic insurrectionists he speaks so highly of maimed…
