Pope Francis's words ring hollow. I know first hand that the Catholic church and Catholic schools, for the most part, are unaccepting of LGBTQ+ people.

When I went to Catholic school, the priests told us that while being gay was a sin, we would be "forgiven" if we didn't act on it. They tried to frame it in a way that made it sound like they weren't being hateful or discriminatory, but hearing that only made me repress my feelings even more.
